This will be long

Kiki and Yoj
The babies blog has taken up most of my time and I haven't really had too much to say other than what was going on with the babies. Now that I have the holidays off (I took some time off since the girls do not have anyone to watch them), I can express some thoughts.

Since my last entry eons ago I have done quite a bit and yet it doesn't seem too much either. I have gotten some certs for work, one called ITIL and another called NCDA. It's the first in a line of hopefully many more to come. I was never a cert kind of person (I'm more of an experience, on the job, jack of all trades kind of geek), but it certainly looks good on the resume and these days with the economy in the shits it's not a bad idea to get some under the belt.

A.D.D. still prevalent in me, I'm reading 4 books at once, but the latest purchase is quite interesting and hopefully I'll make it to the end before buying another one. The book is called "Your Memory : How It Works and How to Improve It" by Kenneth L. Higbee (thanks to my friend Benjamin who suggested this read). I want to work on improving my memory as I haven't been exercising my brain as much as I should and I can really say that my memory is failing because I've become more lazy or maybe more importantly more exhausted than ever before. I always get excited about books and read the first chapters only to lose interest half way through because it's either too predictable or boring.

With the little free time I have I managed to kick in some late night movies and I've made use of my blockbuster online account. I've watched "Don't Mess with the Zohan", "Get Smart", "The Incredible Hulk", "Sex and the City", "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Hellboy II", "Kung Fu Panda", "Hancock", "Tropic Thunder", "Iron Man", "Wanted" and "The Dark Knight". HOLY MOLY that's alot huh? I'm still behind too. I think my queue is at 57 and that's not counting the movies I haven't put in the queue.

The most notable movies I watched were:

"Get Smart" as I loved the tv series. Yes, I'm dating myself, but whatever. The great lines and the characters bring back so many good memories. I loved the quirkiness of the characters and I can actually fess up to being the dork I really am. "Missed it by that much!" Although Maxwell wasn't as unintelligent in the movie, I have to say it was almost to the T with everything else.

"Kung Fu Panda" was great! I didn't expect too much out of it, but I was surprised how much of cheese references to actual Kung Fu films. I loved it!!! The cute factor was up there as well (Leave it to Jack Black). The premise follows the usual Kung Fu film where much loved student goes bad and sifu tries to make up for his mistakes, but doesn't want to acknowledge the student with the most humility and potential. Ahhh yes good stuff. It's definitely a dvd I should buy for the girls to watch one day.

"The Dark Knight" sigh what can I say? Believe the hype! Yes, Heath Ledger rocked out as the joker and yes, I surrender and say Christian Bale is hot, hot, HOT!!! Sure the movie was a little long, but to me it was worth every minute of it. The guys' consensus on it was that they could've done without the drawn out story. Maybe I'm biased by wanting more film time with Mister Bale I don't know. Anywho, what I liked about the story was that it was really raw just like Batman Begins. This isn't a comedic story, but brutal and very dramatic. There's a lot of gloom and probably out of all the superhero movies this is probably the most depressing. Usually when you have that much story involved the action fails, but this movie does not let you down with that as well. It's another dvd I will need to buy.

Movies that let me down was "Hancock", I was really so excited to see it and it let me down. The concept started off good, but as the movie progressed it just seemed too far fetched and didn't make sense even in the make believe sense. Too many questions unanswered and I think that the person who wrote it just filled in blanks with whatever came to mind.

Another movie that followed the unanswered path and nonsense was "Wanted". It was so hyped up and it was such a waste of my time. The only good thing about the movie was the effects and action scenes. The rest is just rubbish. Unless you're an Angelina Jolie fan, I would stay away from that one. I now lost respect for Morgan Freeman sigh.

The rest of the movies I saw were decent and I have to say the superhero movies are getting much better than they have ever been. I felt let down with Fantastic Four, but other than that movie(s) the rest have been great (new Superman, Spiderman, X-men, Incredible Hulk, Ironman, etc).

Whew after all that I can say if I'm not reading or watching a movie then I'm playing on my new wii - Animal Crossing. Thanks to some friends who got Der and I the wii and Animal crossing for our Christmas present we are now all sucked into our virtual animal lives. Sharing fruit, tasks, and what have you. We played this game two iterations ago on the Nintendo Game Cube and DS, you'd think we'd be over it... Hahahha, but seriously thank you to Eric, Liz, Ray, Flo, and Vincy for the wonderful present. Der and I truly love it!

I'm sure no one really reads this blog anymore, but it feels great to just write it all out for me to read again some day.

Goodbye 2008! Good times and hopefully a greater next year!

How ghetto is ghetto?

I haven't really needed to write an entry for a really long time, but this takes the cake. I knew we lived in a really bad area after my neighbor/friend got his car tires and wheels stolen and stuck on some cement blocks. Well after no incidents after that we felt ok taking the usual precautions. But who in God's name would steal a trash can??? YES, I shit you not!!! Sigh, we really need to move.

It's been a long time

It's been a long time since I've done one of these, but I've noticed that my friends and my hubby are not doing any entries either. Ooh except for one trooper Ms Hapawawa. So I've decided to start again because these entries are a great forum to just write about whatever is on my mind.

I've been recently trying to get some movies in when the twins have gone to sleep and I've caught up on some recent rentals like "Love in the time of Cholera", "The Other Boleyn Sister", "The Great Debaters", "There Will be Blood", "Jumper", "Forgiving Dr. Mengele", and some others I don't remember hahaha! Also saw "Training Day" and "First Blood". Training day really was intense and I ended up biting my lip while I was sleeping!!! It was not a good night's rest after watching that movie.

I'm also reading a book I borrowed from my friend called "why beautiful people have more daughters" [from dating, shopping, and praying to going to war and becoming a billionaire - two evolutionary psychologists explain why we do what we do] - Alan S. Miller and Satoshi Kanazawa.

Another outlet is playing rock band, karaoke revolution, and American Idol on the PS2. Sometimes I go across the street to my neighbor's house and make a fool in front of other people and sing on their PS3 sing star songs like "Put your records on" - Corrine Bailey Rae, "Sway" - Bic Runga, "No Surprises" - Radiohead, "Clocks" - Coldplay, "I want to be sedated" - Ramones, etc. I think all the dogs in the neighborhood are howling by the end of my set.

Where is everyone?

I guess people are busy, but seems like no one is on this thing anymore. Where are y'all???

Now that I've been in parenthood for the past several months, I've been thinking about the toys and books I had as a child. My memory is bleak, I can't remember anything past 2 seconds ago. I have only snippets of what toys, books, etc that I loved so dearly.

I once had a Robocon toy that stood about a foot off the floor with wheels, it played little colored records which were Robocon Japanese songs. I remembered I love that toy so much I brought it with me everywhere and on fateful day at Ala Moana beach I pissed my little brother off. He buried my poor Robocon and I never saw him ever again. I always used to dream of that toy, but sadly it was given to me by my mom's friend from Japan and so it wasn't readily available to buy another one.

Speaking of Japanese, I had another toy from Japan which I spent many a time with. It was a plastic miniature shop like Arnold's joint out of "Happy Days". There were little bar stools with a counter and these little plastic food that could stick to the plastic tables and such. I used to take my dolls and re-enact everyday scenes of people eating at a diner. Yeah, real exciting there, but for some reason I loved it and couldn't get enough of it. When I think about it, I had a lot of toys from Japan I wonder who was going there and bringing it back for me...weird.

My bestfriend in kindergarten or first grade, Amy Yamamoto, gave me a huge pink hard covered book (when you're like 6 everything was huge) for my birthday. This book was enormous to me and carried a bunch of short stories. This book was my favorite book in the whole entire universe and yet I can't remember the freaking name of it!!! I remember lugging that thing and memorizing all the stories. UGH, if only I paid better attention to the title hahahah!

I can't leave this entry without mentioning my easy bake oven, oh yes!!! Not only did I love it, but so did my brother and my cousins. I made every cake under the sun and it was soooo great. I can't believe they had such a toy, because looking back in hindsight there could be serious danger with burning down the house or burning the kids using it of course none of that happened, but being a parent now I don't know if I would let my girls use it without my supervision.

The Evils of Life

Yes, I stopped by Starbucks and yes I gave in to temptation!!! Try as I might to lose the extra poundage that my pregnancy has so delightfully given me I can't seem to lose the remaining 15-20 lbs. Did that stop me from going into the evil establishment? NO!!!

Anyway a little history here, I went to Angie's son's birthday party back when I was pregnant dealing with gestational diabetes. They had made his favorite cake called red velvet cake, it looked so good and yet I didn't have any of it not even a bite. I remember this cake really well because not only was it there at that moment that I had seen it before, but it was in one my favorite movies I like to watch called Steel Magnolias (yeah, yeah I know I'm a chick for Heaven's sake!), the cake was in the shape of a Armadillo hahahaha (the wedding reception scene)! Anywho I bought it and with the intention of sharing it with Der and just tasting it. I now can say I ate the whole damn thing up and now I'm wondering how the heck to get more or make the darn thing. I read up on wikipedia that red velvet cake originated from the south thus in the movie Steel Magnolias hello. Starbucks version being my first I have nothing to compare it to, but it is delicious and every bite I could feel the cellulite expanding. There is the beautiful red cake with a layer of dark chocolate and the frosting is cream cheese with confectioners sugar in it topped with snowcaps. You see what I'm saying? Ugh!

There were so many birthday parties and parties in general where I missed out on a lot of good food and desserts. I think I may be going off the deep end and I knew it was gonna happen when I got the green light that I was not diabetic. I have to say I am somewhat cheating as I'm suppose to do a follow up 3 month post pregnancy diabetes check up. Bad, bad me! I think I deserve a break though at least for a while...

three movies, twins, a dog, a cat, and me

totoro & friends
These past few days I managed to watch some movies thanks to Der and now I'm able to post an entry too!!! I guess lately I've been posting on the twins site more often, because I've been obsessed with picture taking and the daily events that parents get so excited about. So I'm pretty excited to be posting here something other than baby stuff and to make use of my Blockbuster account.

First movie I watched was "The Nanny Diaries" with Miss Scarlett Johansson whom I am a fan of. Clearly I did not read the book and I have to admit it was because I knew the movie was coming out. I have taken my lazy ass to a new level and yes, I wait for movies to come out these days instead of reading the book. It's no wonder why my grammar and vocabulary have gone to heck (I'm cutting back on my profanity although I do swear STILL hahahah). Anyway back to my review, I knew it wasn't gonna be a great movie, but still I thought it would be somewhat entertaining. I was wrong. It was a waste of time, so unless you're a Scarlett fan I wouldn't waste my time watching it. Very predictable and it was quite annoying watching the character fumble through the movie. Let's just say if you want that kind of storyline the better movie to watch would be "The Devil Wears Prada".

Second movie I watched was "Superbad" and friends who have watched it already said it was just alright and there was just a lot of sexual jokes. I don't know about anyone else, but when I was a kid I loved "Porky's" and I was expecting that kind of humor. Did it live up to my expectation? Yeah! I do like Michael Cera a lot too, since I'm a fan of Arrested Development. I mean it's not great, but it's sure worth checking out if you're into the kind of teenage adolescence sex movies. Speaking of which Der and I really, really, really want to watch "Juno" which is out in theaters now (okay only in SF theaters). We both like the director who did "Thank You for Smoking", Jerry Cardin. Of course the relevance to all of this is that Michael Cera is in the movie too along side with Jason Bateman. Kitty Pride is in it too, Ellen Page. Anyway it just looks pretty darn funny and these days I'm just really into the comedies more than anything else.

Third movie I watched tonight was "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". Here is another book to movie I missed. I read up to the fourth book in the series and then I kind of got bored. Now I just don't have time to read anything, so I'll just have to watch the movies. Although I have to say this movie was pretty darn good it kind of makes me want to dig up the books a friend lent to me and read the rest of the series. This is probably the darkest of the movies to date. It sure gets you sucked into the story with the return of Lord Voldemort. What's great about the story is that you want to know what happens, will Harry suck up and stop being wimpy and kick Lord Voldemort's ass, will he avenge his parents deaths and his friends, who will be his love interest, will his powers become as great as Dumbledore, holy cow I want to know!!! It's the same flavor as a "Heroes" episode where you're so into what will happen next and pissed off at the end, because you have to wait to find out. Yes, I'm impatient and like millions of kids out there I'll be waiting for the next movie hahahahah!

The next movie in my queue I'm not too sure and I'll probably don't really care. I've pretty much seen the movies I wanted to watch immediately.

When I need to be cheered up...

Yes, I am stuck on these tv commercial songs and I am somewhat ashamed, but at the same time these artists are so good I can't really say that I'm too ashamed. Check it out:

Ben's Brother - Stuttering
